Meet the Designer: Vanessa Froehling

Growing up a competitive figure skater, big ‘dreams’ have always been part of Vanessa Froehling. Born in Iowa and raised in St.Louis, MO; she later relocated to Oregon to make her Fashion dream a reality.

Being a self-taught designer and seamstress, she began sewing in 2004. Using inspiration from shape, structure, and color, each of her designs focus on being perfectly tailored. Vanessa’s creations bring a modern perspective to classic silhouettes, and encourages the wearer to express their individuality. Serving as a maker of identity, she views fashion as the articulation of a lifestyle.

After winning the Evening Wear category at the Metamorphose Fashion Designer Challenge 2014 in Eugene, OR; it inspired her to launch of line of glamorous gowns, playful lingerie and swimwear, and even artistic costumes.

As a result, Fräulein Couture emerged.

Since its conception, designs have been featured in top runway shows, on the cover and published in multiple fashion magazines, and have been part of several art collaborations that later went on to be displayed at Las Vegas’ Henry Mohney’s Erotic Museum. Her designs have also won several Fashion Awards, and Vanessa was even voted Best Clothing Designer 2015-16 by the Eugene Weekly’s ‘Best of Eugene’ readers choice awards.

In August 2016, she was chosen as a finalist for Portland, OR’s what’s next and best for FashioNXT: UpNXT Emerging Designers Contest. Here she auditioned in front of some of Portland’s top industry influences, including past Project Runway Winners Seth Aaron and Michelle Lesniak.
