In May 2014, the first St. Vincent dePaul’s Metamorphose Designer Challenge took place. Ten designers were challenged to create 3 upcycled looks using materials they selected from St.Vincent dePaul’s thrift-store. These looks were to be in the categories of Ready to Wear, Evening Wear, and Designer’s Choice. All outfits had to be constructed from 80% of materials they selected and 20% their own.
Designer Vanessa Froehling’s materials consisted of a lace-print bedsheet, two t-shirts, a WunderBra, pillowcases, a lampshade, a window curtain, an automobile’s timing belt, silk neckties.
She won First Place in the Evening Wear category with an amazing Mermaid Gown design from the lace bedsheet! She enjoyed designing and making it so much, and was even more thrilled to have won in that category; that Fräulein Couture emerged~~
